About our El Cerrito concrete contractor crew

From a city crew to your driveway
I learned concrete on a city crew, pouring sidewalk, curb and gutter and replacing whatever the tree roots had pushed up. You learn quick on that crew that a slab is only as good as what's under it, and that the city notices where your work meets theirs. In 2023 I started El Cerrito Concrete to bring that same careful work to homeowners and property owners here in El Cerrito.
People call us for driveways, patios, walks and steps, and for foundation work where someone has to read the plans. We're best known for flatwork, the slabs you walk and drive on, that drains where it should and meets the street the way the city looks for. What I care about most is the part you don't see. Concrete's going to crack, and my job is to tell it where. There's more on what we build on our home page.

What you can expect from us
Ground work before the concrete
We settle the base, slope and joints before any concrete shows up, digging out and packing what the slab sits on so it doesn't settle with the dirt, and sloping it so water runs away from your house. We also cut control joints, shallow grooves that give the slab a planned place to crack, and if the budget's tight we'd rather keep the base and go plainer on the finish, because nobody can fix the base once it's buried.
One person from estimate to pour
I come out to see your job and write the estimate, and I'm on site running the pour while our crew does the work. What we talked about in your driveway is what gets built, because the person who heard it is the one standing there.
Straight answers before you spend
Sometimes the honest answer is that an engineer needs to look first, or that a coat over your old slab won't fix what's wrong underneath it. You'll hear that from us up front, before you've paid for something that only hides the problem.
Licensed for the work we do
California contractor license
In California, the only work that skips a state contractor license is minor work where the whole price, labor, materials and everything else, comes to less than $500. If your job costs more than that, the contractor needs the license, and we're fully licensed and insured.
El Cerrito business license and permits
The City of El Cerrito requires anyone doing business inside city limits to hold a city business license, and a contractor takes care of that before pulling a permit there. When a job needs a permit, we pull it under our license and book the inspections, and if it's not clear whether one's needed, we check with the city or county office before we price the work.
